Flup – Festa Literária das Periferias is an international literary festival whose main characteristic is to take place in territories traditionally excluded from literary programs, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

We passed through Morro dos Prazeres, Vigário Geral, Mangueira, Babilônia, Mangueira and Vidigal, until we reached the city center, embracing the region that samba artist Heitor dos Prazeres named “Little Africa”. We held the 2018 edition at the Parque Estadual Library and the 2019 edition at the Rio de Janeiro Art Museum. In 2020, due to Covid-19, FLUP was held on digital platforms, transcending territories and impacting the whole of Brazil and 7 other countries.

Another characteristic that makes us unique is that Flup is preceded by a training process, which has already resulted in the publication of 22 books with authors from our peripheries. Some authors who went through these trainings are Ana Paula Lisboa, Jessé Andarilho, Rodrigo Santos and the phenomenon Geovani Martins, a young resident of Rocinha whose debut book was translated into more than 10 countries.

Flup can be attributed to the emergence of the first generation of writers from Rio's favelas.

In nine editions, Flup has won some important awards, such as the 2012 Faz difference, the 2016 Awards Excellence, the 2016 Retratos da Leitura and the Jabuti Prize in the Promotion of Reading category, respectively awarded by the newspaper O Globo, London Book Fair, the Pró-Livro Institute and the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL).
